Mastering this craft takes thousands of hours of failing, rendering, and trying again. The syllabus is broken down strategically over three years to build your technical muscle memory.
- Year 1: Foundation and Pre-Production You do not touch complex 3D software on day one. You start with the basics of visual communication. You will master storyboarding, color theory, digital illustration, and basic graphic design. You will learn how a camera works, understanding aperture, shutter speed, and composition. By the end of this year, you will understand how to plan a project before spending money on production.
- Year 2: 3D Production and Asset Creation This is where the workload becomes heavy. You will master hard-surface modeling, organic sculpting in ZBrush, and creating clean UV maps. You will learn the principles of character rigging, giving your models a digital skeleton. You will then master the 12 principles of animation, focusing on weight, timing, and overlapping action to make those models move naturally.
- Year 3: VFX, Compositing, and Specialization This year focuses on integration. You will master matchmoving with PFTrack, advanced rotoscoping with Mocha, and node-based compositing with Nuke. You will create dynamic fluid and fire simulations. Finally, you will choose a specific discipline and spend your final semester building a specialized showreel under strict studio deadlines.
